Is Your Career Thriving, or Are You Just Surviving?

Are you motivated and enthusiastic about your work? Do you feel valued at your company? Is its culture a good fit for you?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, there’s a good chance your career is surviving — not thriving. Work on reviving it by evaluating your job satisfaction. Some questions to consider:

  • Do you feel engaged in your current job?

  • Is there an opportunity for advancement?

  • How is your work/life balance?

  • What are your skills and strengths, and are they being utilized?

Next, begin your search for a rewarding job. Some questions to consider:

  • What inspires and motivates you?

  • What positions best match your qualifications?

  • Do the companies you’re considering share your values?

  • Will your new job engage you?

  • Will it offer you career development?

After nine years in a retail management position, Allison realized she was just surviving and sought a new opportunity to thrive. She knew she had excellent customer service and organizational skills. The next step was finding the right match for them.

Last year, Allison joined NJM as a licensed account representative in our Hammonton contact center.

“I never imagined I would be a good fit for insurance,” she said, “but after reading the job description and speaking with a recruiter, I realized I could excel at NJM.”

To her surprise, the transition from one industry to another was smooth.

“I was nervous starting at NJM because I was so comfortable in my previous job,” she said. “When I think back to last year when I decided to switch careers, I am so thankful that I took the risk."

“I found the training program thorough and successful in preparing me. Every trainer was knowledgeable, understanding, and even made learning fun. They give so much support during and after training that I never felt alone.”

She offers reassuring advice if you are contemplating a career change.

“Changing jobs is scary, especially when you have grown so comfortable at one organization/position,” Allison said. “However, stepping out of that comfort zone is the only way to develop new skills, and it can be truly rewarding.”

NJM offers a variety of career opportunities in sales, marketing, accounting, finance, IT, actuarial science, and more! The Company provides outstanding benefits and access to wellness programs and continuous learning opportunities and encourages employees to give back to the communities we are privileged to serve.
