NJM MSA Bill Processing: A High-Performing Team

When an NJM policyholder (or an employee of a business policyholder) requires medical treatment due to a covered incident, the Company’s Medical Services Administration (MSA) team is there to assist.

MSA is a relationship–focused department. The MSA Bill Processing group processes Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Workers’ Compensation medical and expense bills accurately and expediently to provide peace of mind to those receiving medical care.

We talked to four Bill Processing team members to better understand their secret to being a high–performing team. Their NJM experience ranges from one year to 17 years.

Mark, who joined NJM a year ago, and Missy, an 11–year employee and supervisor, came to the Company based on positive feedback.

“I have three friends who work here, and they all highly recommended the company,” said Mark, an MSA bill processor.

“My father worked in the insurance industry, heard good things about NJM, and recommended I apply,” said Missy, an MSA supervisor.

The support system within the group is essential to its seamless operation.

“We are big on helping each other out and jumping in to handle different tasks, when necessary,” said Rachelle, a 17–year veteran. “I always feel supported by my superiors and peers and try to emulate them in assisting my team.”

As a newer employee, Mark appreciates the support he receives.

“I’m able to lean on my teammates because they know how to help mitigate or prevent situations that would otherwise be stressful,” he said. “The helpfulness and competency are the highest I’ve ever experienced at a workplace.”

Amanda, a medical billing specialist with 14 years at NJM, enjoys her supervisor's trust.

“My favorite part of the job is that I can work independently and have the capabilities to do my job well,” she said.

Since NJM became a regional property casualty insurer serving seven states, the ability to lean on a colleague with specific knowledge is essential.

“If I have a question about a state or line of business, I can get that expertise from a teammate,” Missy said.

Another aspect of the Bill Processing group that is a big part of its success is the work environment.

“My co–workers and management are why I enjoy my job,” said Missy.

“Most of us have been together for years and are like a second family,” said Amanda. “We’re always bouncing ideas off each other to help deliver the best outcome.”

“We try to make the department meetings interesting and always have a fun time around holidays,” said Rachelle.

Added Mark, “Food always brings people together.”
