A New Path Brings Professional Success

Merry Jo was not always an insurance producer. Although she has been working for NJM since 2009, she experienced a big career change in 2014.

“NJM invested the time and attention for me to acquire the knowledge and skills I needed to succeed in my new role,” Merry Jo said. “The learning process was awesome. The investment that NJM puts into its employees is very extensive and informative.”

In large part due to NJM’s training, Merry Jo quickly achieved an insurance producer’s license. Her experience mirrored the standard training regimen in the Personal Lines Contact Center. Because she moved directly into a supervisory role, she also took several leadership classes.

As a staff supervisor in NJM’s Personal Lines Department, Merry Jo leads a team of more than 40 Licensed Account Representatives who assist current and future policyholders on a day–to–day basis. She is a mentor to five supervisors under her, and she helps to interview candidates seeking to join the Contact Center.

“NJM doesn’t give up on its employees,” Merry Jo said. “The Company helped me transition to my new position and ensured that I was ready to dive into those responsibilities.”

Merry Jo especially enjoys interacting with other people, helping them work through challenging situations, and seeing them develop. She supports the Company’s five–year goals and feels rewarded from seeing the progress her team makes toward achieving them.

“Since I started at NJM, I’ve felt very supported by the people I’ve reported to,” Merry Jo said. “The people that I consider colleagues now were once my supervisors, and they have been very influential in guiding me and helping me adapt. I was able to take some of their best qualities and apply them to what I do now.”

Merry Jo also has a strong understanding of the different qualities required for each job. If an employee indicates that they are interested in a particular career track, Merry Jo collaborates with Human Resources to ensure that they have access to development opportunities.

“Everybody is looking for something different, and everyone has different qualities that they excel at,” Merry Jo said. “We have a lot of different options to help people grow in their career.”

Throughout her career, Merry Jo has been inspirational in the positivity and flexibility she has shown toward her growth.

“Changing careers was a big shift, but I’ve been very fortunate. I love what I do, there is a wealth of opportunity here, and everyone I’ve met, from management down to my staff, is amazing.”

She spends her down time with her family and enjoys visiting wineries and attending country music concerts.
